The Evelyn Huey Scholarship Fund

For the past 31 years, Mrs. Evelyn Huey has been a fixture within the SFCS community. She has made an incredible impact on the lives of current students and alumni. Mrs. Huey is an amazing example of a true Christian leader, someone who loves, accepts, and cares for each individual. The Alumni Association has selected Mrs. Huey as the namesake of our Scholarship Fund because she exemplifies our goal, which is to open our arms to those in need regardless of status, background, life experiences, or popularity.

Our vision is to give students the opportunity to be educated in a loving environment and appreciated for their individuality. We hope to make an impact on future Christian leaders by contributing and continuing the cycle of giving into the future.

What we will need from you, the Alumni Community and those of you who associate yourself with SFC on any level, is to find a way to commit to contributing to the Evelyn Huey Scholarship Fund. If each of you think about one event that stood out in your mind in a positive way- whether it be a friend that you are still close with, a teacher that impacted you, a moment that you look back on with fond memories, then this is what we want you to consider when you decide to donate. Financial times are hard for many of us, and any amount impacts this Fund significantly. However, if we can change the lives of students in a way that they can look back on remember fondly then we as the SFC Community have been successful in passing on the amazing experiences that we all had.

SUMMER 2012 UPDATE: A LETTER FROM OUR GIVING COORDINATOR
On February 1st, myself along with 4 other Alumni met on campus for nearly 3 hours discussing and debating who should receive the 5 scholarships that we were going to be able to award for the 2012-2014 school year. Our goal for this year was to give out 6, but due to a lack of funds we were only in a position to give out 5.

With a total of 14 applicants this year, the decision process was much more difficult than we had anticipated due to this overwhelming response. We spent a lot of time and consideration on each and every applicant to be sure that we gave the funds to the students who were most in need, and were the most deserving.

A few days after I arrived back in Seattle I got a call from Mike Siciliano that we had just received a donation that needed to be applied to the upcoming school year. This allowed us to give the 6th and final award to the a student that we had all wanted to see receive an award.

This process is never easy. It seems that as the years go by, the process becomes harder and harder. Every single student that applied for a scholarship this year was in need. Thankfully I had a great group of people on the panel to help me decide who will be a recipient, and become part of the community of Evelyn Huey Scholarship recipients.

It has been our goal since we started this Scholarship that we would like to give between 6-8 awards a year, at a minimum amount of $2,000. If it wasn’t for the last minute donation, we would have fallen short this year.

My ask is for you to strongly consider investing in a students life. You all have heard this from me at least once a year, and as much as you may not like seeing and hearing someone ask for money, please know that I do not take it lightly asking for your help. But that is just what I am doing. Help me in investing in 6-8 students for the next school year. (2013-2014) now. The goal of having $12,000-$16,000 worth of funds available is a lofty one, but I do feel that we all can do this together before the next Awards Selection Meeting is held in February. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me directly: dyearick@gmail.com.

Sincerely,
Doug Yearick, Class of 1992
